Egypt maintain position in FIFA April rankings ahead of 2019 AFCON draw

Despite the goalless draw with Niger and 1-0 loss to Nigeria last week, Egypt  s national football team has held its position at number 57 in the FIFA global football rankings, published on 4 April.

The Pharaohs remain in eighth place among African countries, behind Senegal (23), Tunisia (28), Nigeria (42) and Morocco (45). They are fourth among Arab countries, after Tunisia, Morocco and Qatar.

Egypt  s national team conceded a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw aginst Niger in a dead-rubber African Nations Cup qualifier last week, three days before losing 1-0 to Nigeria in a friendly game.

Egypt will host AFCON 2019, which kicks off on 21 June, after original host Cameroon was stripped of hosting right due to delays in its preparations for the expanded 24-team tournament.

The tournament  s draw will be held at the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx on 12 April.

Egypt made it into the world  s top 10 when they won three successive CAN trophies in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
