The inevitable Coptic quota

Quota is a fixed share that must be received, and the Coptic quota is a fixed share for the Coptic Christians in Egypt given during the elections to ensure a pretty fair representative for them in the parliament. Countries that enjoy democracy don't need such exceptional procedures. However, in Egypt we don't have the luxury to avoid them. This quota is a temporary practical solution to ensure equal opportunities for all Egyptians, till they have more appreciation for the rights of the minorities.

Our fathers have refused this quota as they had a chance to compete and win a victory over Muslims. Unfortunately, this is no more available.

Moreover, it's not expected that the state will do something to change that. On the contrary, this may be an acceptable situation later.

In order to avoid such situation, we should understand: First, that it's their right to have this share. Second, Egyptian society is suffering now from unprecedented patterns of intolerance and hatred. This is unusual situation that needs unusual solution. It's clear that the officials are not willing to offer their help.

This quota is applied all over the world to help minorities get their rights in many fields. It's called affirmative action or positive discrimination, which refers to policies that take factors including "race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or national origin" into consideration in order to benefit an underrepresented group "in areas of employment, education, and business…etc".

In USA, there was a program called Affirmative Action that gave colored races certain benefits to allow them show their capacity. This helped them a lot, and they were able to reach the presidency, the Congress as well as many official offices in the American government.

I don't think that Coptic Christians seek the presidential office by any means, but there should be no prevention for them. They're only seeking equality and to get their rights. This needs certain procedures as things are getting even worse.

Egyptian officials can do a lot, but they are simply not willing to do any. Nasser, former president,  has decided to dedicate certain governorates for the Copts to be nominated in, and run in elections. This was his own way to solve this problem.

It only takes a desire to give the Coptic people their rights. However, Egyptian state is trying to ignore the problem entirely. Copts, the origin of Egypt, are demanding their rights, and they won't stop till they get them.
