Egypt's Coptic Christians face dilemma over violence

The leader of Egypt's Coptic Christians, Pope Tawadros II, has accused President Mohammed Morsi of "negligence" following deadly violence outside the main cathedral in Cairo.

Several people died in clashes between Egypt's Christians and Muslims at the weekend, some of the worst violence in months.

Many Christian Copts believe that Mr Morsi has not followed through on promises he made to protect the country's religious minorities - and are now considering leaving the country.

The BBC's Middle East regional editor, Shaimaa Khalil told Lyse Doucet the president is finding it difficult to control the rhetoric of the more hard-line groups - who say there is no place for Coptic Christians in Egypt.
