Egyptian-French star Gamil Ratib passed away on Wednesday at the age of 92, according to his manager Hany al-Tohami, who wrote on Facebook that “artist, father, friend and beautiful actor Gamil Ratib has passed away.” Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem mourned Ratib, saying that he “stays immortal through his works.” She added that the era of the greats is coming to an end and described Ratib as leaving a “mark on Egyptian cinema.”

Excavations carried out by an Egyptian mission near the Aga Khan Mausoleum on Aswan s west bank uncovered an anthropoid sandstone sarcophagus with a mummy inside of a Late Period tomb. Mostafa Waziri, the secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, told Ahram Online that the mummy inside the sarcophagus is wrapped in linen and in a very good conservation condition.

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced that the United Nations General Assembly has adopted an Egyptian resolution on sexual abuse, according to a press statement released by the MOFA on Saturday. MOFA said that the main aim of the resolution, titled “Sexual abuse and exploitation: Implementing zero-tolerance policy” aims to prevent all kinds of sexual exploitation utilizing the United Nation system, including agencies, funds and programs.

A joint expedition between the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities have discovered more than 800 tombs in Lisht village, southern Egypt dating back to 4000 years BC. According to the Ministry of Antiquities in a Facebook post, the tombs have a specific architectural style and were carved into rock, surrounded by brick and limestone.

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) received a collection of 71 artefacts today from Al-Bahnasa archaeological site in the Minya governorate in Upper Egypt. Tarek Tawfiq, GEM Supervisor General, told Ahram Online that the collection includes several important ancient Egyptian pieces, such as the beautiful Nes-Ptah s sarcophagus with an anthropoid lid. Nes-Ptah was a noble and son of Thebes and overseer Montumhat. The sarcophagus is inscribed with hieroglyphic texts and weighs a staggering five tons.

Ninety elephant carcasses have been discovered in Botswana with their tusks hacked off, a charity said Tuesday, in what is believed to be one of Africa s worst mass poaching sprees. Most of the animals killed were large bulls carrying heavy tusks, Elephants Without Borders said. More than 300 endangered sea turtles were found dead near the southern coast of Mexico, the country s environmental officials said. An isolated Amazon tribe with no known contact with the outside world has been spotted by a drone flying over the Brazilian jungle, according to the country s National Indian Foundation.
