ALEXANDRIA: Alexandria’s Misdemeanor Court sentenced 14 girls affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood to 11 years and one month in prison Wednesday on charges of hindering traffic, and being members of a banned group that aims to destabilize the country.
Additionally, six male members of the Brotherhood were sentenced to 15 years in prison on charges of inciting the female protestors to demonstrate.
A total of 21 female protestors were arrested in October while protesting for the reinstatement of former President Mohamed Morsi.
Seven of those arrested were minors and therefore were transferred to a juvenile detention center.
The verdict was announced amid a tense security situation as security forces’ presence intensified in and outside of the courthouse to prevent any clashes from breaking out.
