CAIRO: The prohibition of religiously-based parties is a return to an article in the 1971 constitution, and may cause an appeal to the draft, according to Magdy Hemdan, a leader in the Democratic Front Party and National Salvation Front executive office member.
Hemdan told Youm7 that this article is “incompatible” with one of the members in the 50-member committee tasked with amending the constitution, and said some may appeal the draft based on this article.
Hemdan added that positive discrimination and quotas that would be determined through law are “incompatible with the principle of equality between Egyptians.” He said that the controversy about this article “should have been finished along ago,” and the return of it “means a lack of transparency in many things which were not solved yet.”
