CAIRO: The judges on trial in the Judges for Egypt case, in which several judges were accused of working in politics, have been accused by National Security investigations of sedition, and of partaking in the Rabaa al-Adaweya sit-in in support of the former President Mohamed Morsi.
The investigations accused 12 judges from the judicial authorities of joining the Muslim Brotherhood to spread sedition and unrest among the judges, and of instating new Brotherhood elements to support Morsi.
The investigations stated that the accused judges worked to polarize a large number of judges after establishing the Judges for Egypt Movement in 2010, and their number reached approximately 230 judges throughout various judicial authorities.
The investigations also stated that the judges’ activities had begun during the presidential elections, when they monitored and followed the elections in all sub-committees, and announced Mohamed Morsi’s win before it was announced by the Supreme Electoral Commission.
A judicial source told Youm7 that the judge of the trial informed the special boards in the judicial authorities to lift the immunity of the judges who are being tried.
The source explained that the defendants violated the judicial standards and the independence of judiciary, breaking the law regulating all judicial authorities.
