A number of activists protested briefly in Talaat Harb Square, where Shaimaa al-Sabbagh was killed Jan. 24, before Assistant to Minister of Interior Ehab Roushdi requested they leave in a microphone, according to Youm7.
The protesters held banners depicting the death of Sabbagh, a member of the Popular Alliance Party. Locals had confronted the protesters before they opted to leave, Youm7 reported.
The protest was organized by Askar Kazeboon, or “the military are liars,” a movement founded in 2011. It was planned to be by women, but several men also took part. Several women’s rights movements supported the demonstration, such as Operation Anti-Sexual Harassment.
The woman police was present for possible forcible dispersal of the protest. The traffic went smooth in the downtown area after the protest ended with no casualties reported, according to Youm7.
