I am writing this article about the last year of the reign of Sisi in Egypt, I see him as a surgeon not just a president and he needs for a scalpel to carry out a lot of operations and to make them succeed and to amputate lots of obstacles and to correct corruption in the administrative system. However, It’s important to assess his performance in order to help him do his job.
I am talking here about president al-Sisi and Copts during the first year of his ruling. It’s true that he visited the Great Cathedral during the holy Mass of Christmas, but he did not visit it in the Easter. May be it was just a courtesy for that Salafis who consider congratulating the Copts on Easter kind of infidelity. Yet, the Copts don’t accept such courtesy.
Sisi returned the expelled families in Beni Suef, but there are many others who were expelled from their homes including Nubians. Copts and the Coptic church support al-Sisi and there are indeed mutual love between both parties. This appeared during his visits to the UN and Germany.
Sisi deals with the Copts as Egyptian citizens, not as a minority. This is really good, but this doesn’t appear in the important ministers in the cabinet. Only Mr. Mounir Fakhri Abdel Nour, Minister of Trade, can be found in an important office. This may be due to being Copt and not for being a good minister, which we don’t accept as well.
Sisi hurts many people and disrupts the wheel of progress and development by keeping a government with salafi interests.
Moreover, I want to assure that the good treatment of al-Sisi to the Copts is their right, especially with their support during July 3rd, 2013 statement and the strong situation of refusing entry to Jerusalem as a support to their Muslim brothers.
The Coptic church prays for the President of Egypt in its daily prayers, no matter his treatment was good or not. It prayed for Morsi when he was persecuting the church and prayed for Minister of interiors when the great Cathedral was under attack and dozens of churches were on fire. However, the terrorists claim that Copts in Egypt are getting more than their rights.
