Damaged black boxes of doomed flight to be taken to France within 48 hours
CAIRO, Jun 25 (Aswat Masriya) - A delegation will travel to France with the damaged memory units of the black boxes of the doomed EgyptAir flight within 48 hours to be fixed, sources within the Egyptian investigation committee said on Saturday.

The EgyptAir MS804 flight crashed into the Mediterranean about 280 km from the Egyptian seacoast en route from Paris to Cairo. The passenger flight was carrying 66 people on board including 30 Egyptians and 15 French nationals.

The Egyptian investigation committee said last week that the memory units of the two black boxes, the Cockpit Voice Recorder and the Flight Data Recorder, were both damaged and will be sent to France for repair.

The black boxes, which were retrieved earlier in June, are crucial for helping piece together the causes of the crash.

Egypt's civil aviation minister did not rule out the possibility of a terrorist act to be behind the crash. He even said a terrorist attack is more likely than a technical failure.

No group has claimed responsibility for the downing of the plane.

Following the crash, Egypt contracted with Mauritius -based company "Deep Ocean Search", specializing in marine wreckage searches, to help in the search and retrieval of the boxes and the plane's debris.

The ship JOHN LETHBRIGDE, owned by "Deep Ocean Search" which retrieved the two black boxes, is still searching for more of the plane's debris and locating victims' remains.
