A Giza court of cassation annulled MP Ahmed Mortada Mansour's membership in Egypt's House of Representatives on Wednesday and ruled that independent candidate Amr El-Shobaki is the legitimate MP for the Dokki and Agouza constituency.
According to El-Shobaki's lawyer Essam El-Islamboly, the court decided to overrule the declared results, allowing El-Shobaki to take Mansour's seat in the house.
In a short statement on his official Facebook page, Mansour denied that the court of cassation issued a ruling annulling his membership, saying that he was informed of the move from media reports.
The Free Egyptians Party member stated that he asked the court to issue a statement about the case, adding that he would respect any ruling the court would issue.
The Egyptian House of Representatives has yet to comment on the ruling.
Ahmed Mortada Mansour, a member of Free Egyptians Party and son of controversial Zamalek Sports Club MP Mortada Mansour, was initially declared as the winner in the parliamentary runoff elections in October after narrowly beating columnist and independent political analyst Amr Shobaki by a mere 700 votes.
Amr El-Shobaki, who represented the same constituency in the 2012 parliament, appealed the October results and accused Mansour of committing electoral violations during the runoff vote.
