Prominent MP Mostafa Bakry asked Egypt's House of Representatives on Sunday to summon prime minister Sherif Ismail to parliament to question him over a public feud between the minister of local development and the governor of Alexandria involving accusations of corruption and wasting public money.
Bakry's request comes less than 24 hours after governor of Alexandria Mohamed Abdel Zaher accused the minister of local development Ahmed Zaki Badr on TV Saturday night of wasting public money by allocating a piece of land from the state's properties to an investor at a price lower than its true value.
Governor Zaher accused the minister on the Dream 2 TV show 10 PM of approving to allocate a disputed state land in Alexandria to an investor for EGP 10 million based upon a fake contract when the land was worth EGP 1 billion.
He also revealed that he filed a complaint at the General prosecution about the incident.
Zaki Badr refuted the governor's accusations on the air during the same show, insisting that he interfered personally to solve the problem after publishing a personal plea to the president to intervene and find a solution to the land dispute.
He also added that governor Abdel Zaher mixed up two cases involving state land in Alexandria, insisting that the investor involved in the case had the right to own the land, but the governor stood against him.
The heated confrontation between Abdel Zaher and Badr comes after rumours in Egypt about an upcoming governorship reshffle that will include Abdel Zaher.
"I do not care if my name is there," Abdel Zaher said on the show, while minister Badr stated that he would not use his position to recommend or evaluate governors.
