Sudan's President Bashir says no discord with Egypt over Nile water
Sudan's President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir said there is no discord between his country and Egypt regarding their respective shares of Nile water and that the relationship between the two countries is "excellent."

Al-Bashir made his remarks during a TV interview on Sky News Arabia channel, parts of which were aired on Tuesday.

A giant hydroelectric dam project Ethiopia is building has been a source of contention between Cairo and Addis Ababa.

Egypt, which relies almost exclusively on the Nile for farming and drinking water, fears the dam would significantly diminish its share of the river's water.

Sudan, which like Ethiopia already has dams of its own on the Nile river system, has given its support to the project, saying it would benefit from electricity.

During the interview, Al-Bashir quashed accusations that Ethiopia would take control of the Nile water through the dam, according to state news agency MENA.

Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan signed a principles agreement in March 2015 in Khartoum on the sharing of Nile waters and Ethiopia's Grand Renaissance Dam.
