Parliamentary Religious Committee exerts its efforts to ease the current tension between Egypt’s Islamic institution of Al-Azhar and Endowment Ministry over the written sermon, said MP Shoukry Al-Gendy.
He added, in a statement to Youm7, that the committee will mediate and hold a dialogue between the two parties to pave the way for reaching a compromise.
A state of tension dominated the relations between Azhar and Endowment Ministry in the aftermath of the refusal of Senior Muslim Scholars to the proposal adopted by the ministry to force preachers to read written and unified sermons coming from the ministry.
The ministry believes that such a step will contain the danger of extremist preachers who use the sermons to spread their ideas, while Azhar rejected it describing such idea as suspension of Islamic speech.
