Egyptians unity topped the meeting between Sisi and pope, Church’s spokesman

The meeting held between Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi and the Coptic delegation, headed by Pope Tawadros II, came upon a request from the presidency, said the Church’s Spokesman Priest Polis Halim on Thursday.

He added, in press statements, “The president clarified during the meeting that the country faces serious challenges, while he bets on the unity of Egyptian people. He also discussed his vision for Egypt’s future.”

The meeting, which continued for 90 minutes, did not extend to the recent sectarian incidents witnessed in a number of Upper Egypt’s villages, said the spokesman, while it focused on how to overcome the attempts aiming to challenge the Egyptians unity.

The president stressed that the government will not be able to achieve this objective with cooperating efforts from all Egyptians, said Halim, adding that the bishops appreciated the president’s orders to finalize the churches building law as soon as possible and his keenness to achieve compatibility over its articles between both the government and church.
