Prominent Egyptian talk show host Amr Adib joins ONTV
Prominent Egyptian TV presenter Amr Adib joined satellite TV channel ONTV as the host of a new talk show less than one month after he said he would be taking a break from the media.

According to ONTV, details on the new show, which will make its debut in September, will be announced in a press conference where a new programme lineup for the channel will be revealed.

ONTV was acquired in May by steel tycoon Ahmed Abou Hashima, who announced on Facebook the signing of Adib.

Abou Hashima has said that in buying ONTV, he intends to "reinforce Egypt's status in the media and present a comprehensive and developed media that is both professional and attractive and also functions in accordance with the state and people's aspiration for growth and stability."

The hiring of Adib comes nearly one month after prominent hosts Liliane Daoud and Gaber Al-Armouty decided to leave the channel after its sale to Abou Hashima.

Adib, who has one of the largest audiences in the Middle East, hosted Al-Kahira Al-Youm (Cairo Today) for almost two decades before announcing in July that he would be taking a "temporary break."

Adib, one of the pioneers of talk shows in Egypt, is known for his strident take on controversial issues and a folksy style believed to have contributed to his popularity.
