Algerian singer Souad Massi to close Bibliotheca Alexandrina Intl Summer Festival

 Renowned Algerian singer Souad Massi will perform on Thursday 8 September, closing the 14th edition of Bibliotheca Alexandrina International Summer Festival.

Based in Paris, Massi, a widely influential artist and also very popular in Egypt.
 
In her music, she remains faithful to her language and Arab roots yet merges influences from other cultures and genres like Spanish flamenco, African instruments, American folk rock.
 
Her albums have received international acclaim, and she has millions of fans both in the Arab world and internationally.
 
Her first album hit with wide popularity, Raoui in 2001, features many of her iconic songs such as Gher Enta and Matebkiche. Massi’s latest studio album was produced in 2010, titled Ô Houria.
 
Organised by the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Arts Centre, this year’s edition brings over 40 cultural events, ranging from music and theatre to film and traditional dance, to the Mediterranean city.
 
Starting with Lebanese Marcel Khalife who opened the festival on 29 July, this year's music programme provides a vibrant line-up with concerts by an array of established singers and musicians from Egypt and the region, topped with two events from India. The festival is topped with several film screenings and plays.
