French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian arrived at Cairo International Airport on Saturday evening, airport sources said.
Drian, who heads a military delegation, is scheduled to meet with Egyptian military officials to discuss issues of common interest and military partnership between the two countries.
Upon arrival, Drian was received by diplomats from the French Embassy in Cairo and Egyptian military officials.
His visit comes after Egypt has received the 2nd Mistral helicopter carrier, which was named after late Egyptian president Anwar El-Sadat. It is one of two carriers Egypt purchased from France last year in a deal worth $950 million.
