Egypt, Jordan launch 'Aqaba 2016' joint military drills

Joint drills between the Egyptian and Jordanian militaries began in southern Jordan on Monday and will continue until 25 November, according to Egypt's military spokesman.

Egyptian naval, ground and special army forces are participating in the drills, known as Aqaba 2016, according to Egypt's military spokesman.

The training includes lectures on launching joint missions and field trainings on conventional and non-traditional theories and tactics to "develop operational readiness and share experiences with the Jordanian armed forces," Egypt's army statement said.

Egypt has carried out 30 joint military exercises in 2016, partnering with 20 different Arab and African countries, as well as European countries including France and Russia.

In October, Egyptian and Russian paratroopers conducted drills in the Mediterranean city of Alamein.
