TV Presenter Islam el-Behery might be among the first batch of jailed youth who were granted pardon within 48 hours, a member of a committee reviewing prisoners’ status said.
Mohamed Abdel Aziz, member of the committee, said that Behery’s name is highly recommended to be among those to be released per presidential pardon.
The committee has been formed per instructions by President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi; prisoners eligible for the decision are those who received final verdicts.
The legal status of both Author Ahmed Nagy and Columnist Fatma Naoot is being revised as the two received first-degree ruling.
Behery is in prison over charges of defaming religion. Naoot faces the same charge, while novelist Nagy was jailed over accusations of writing an article with “obscene sexual content.”
