Cinemas, cultural venues suspend events, declare period of mourning

Culture Ministry has declared a period of mourning in the wake of the church bombings that occurred in Alexandria and Tanta on Sunday.

Ismail Mokhtary, head of the Theater House, ordered the shows to be supended for three days.
 
Among the suspended shows were ‘Forty Rules of Love’ for Bahaa Tharwat, ‘The Trial’ for Ashraf abdel Ghafour, ‘The Day They Killed Singing’ for Yasser Sadeq, ‘Business Dinner’ for Ashraf Farouq and others.
 
Meanwhile, the Opera House, headed by Inas abdel Dayem, condemned the bombings and also declared a mourning period of three days beside suspending all events at theaters in Cairo, Alexandria and Damanhour in solidarity with families of the victims.
 
The press conference that was supposed to be held at the cinema of Hanager Arts Center to disclose details about the fifth session of the International Festival for Drums and Traditional Arts, organized by the Cultural Development Fund, was postponed.
 
Moreover, Misr Opera House decided to reschedule a concert by singers Medhat Saleh and Carmen Suleiman. Sawy Cultural Wheel also postponed concerts for three days.
 
Films did not achieve the expected revenues at the box office on Palm Sunday following the day's tragic events.
