The fourth day of the Malmö Arab Film Festival (8-13 October) was marked by the awards ceremony of the sixth edition of the MAFF Market Forum, where awards totalling over $100,000 were distributed among the participating film projects.
Two projects by Egyptian directors were awarded grants to support the different stages of the production.
The Lottery, a project directed by Karoline Kamel and produced by Mai Saad, won the Mosaic TV Award, amounting $10,000, for sound mixing services.
The Lottery also won the Mosaic TV Award for editing, splitting a prize worth $10,000 with another Egyptian project titled The Life and Times of Omar Sharif, directed by Mark Lotfy and Axel Petersen and produced by Sigrid Helleday.
Both projects were among the pitches in the Feature Films in Post-Production category, where a total of nine projects were given a variety of funds. The jury of the award included Tunisian actor and director Ali Sabri Belaid, Jordanian film producer Deema Azar and Syrian filmmaker Rosh Abdel-Fattah.
The MAFF Market Forum also distributed awards in other film categories such as Feature Fiction Films in Development, Feature Documentaries in Development and Short Film Films in Development.
The 10th Malmö Arab Film Festival takes place between 8 and 13 October with over 75 feature-length, short films and documentaries by Arab artists or focusing on the Arab region.
