Egypt's FM meets with French senate president in Cairo

Egypt's Foreign Affairs Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Monday with French senate president Gérard Larcherin in Cairo to discuss a number of regional and domestic issues, a ministry statement read.

During the meeting, Shoukry updated Larcher on the current situation in Egypt, touching on recent economic reforms taken by the country, including Thursday's floating of the Egyptian pound.

The foreign minister also discussed Egypt's views on recent events in the Middle East, including the ongoing crises in Syria, Libya, Iraq and Yemen, as well as the Palestinian cause.

The duo also discussed challenges to combating illegal immigration and terrorism.

On his part, Larcher stressed that France would always be a partner to Egypt, both politically and economically.

Larcher arrived in the capital with a five-member delegation on Sunday for a three-day visit, during which he is scheduled to meet with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to discuss recent developments in the region.

The senator will also hold talks with a number of senior Egyptian officials including Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal and Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit.
