To him it is sin

The commandment of fasting is the first commandment given by the Lord to Adam when he told them not to eat from the forbidden tree. Fasting is a critical commandment of the Lord Jesus Christ for a complete and acceptable worship, and whoever does not fast with an acceptable excuse deserves a punishment.

Bishop Mataus, head of the Syrian monastery, said in his article about the fasting of the apostles and the Sacraments explained to us the connection between fasting and communion as not fasting with the church prevents Chitins from taking communion with the church as well.

When Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating from the tree, they died spiritually and deserved to be expelled from the paradise and were prevented from eating from the tree of life, which resembles taking communion.

I also remember the punishment of God to the children of Israel when they complained about the food of manna which God gave them in the wilderness. The Manna is a vegetarian food like bread and honey. They demanded meat and God punished them and many of them died.

St. Jacob the Apostle says:  to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.  Since fasting is a heavenly commandment. It is not only abstaining from food, but also from all bad habits and sins.
