April 6 Youth Movement held a vigil outside the Cairo Security Directorate on Wednesday evening, demanding the release of political detainees, Ingy Hamdy, the movement’s spokesperson, posted on social media.
Security forces had stepped up their presence outside the High Court in anticipation of any possible clashes amid the events staged by the movement.
On Wednesday, North Cairo Court accepted an appeal submitted by members arrested in the clashes that took place outside the High Court on the eponymous anniversary of the movement’s founding, requesting the cancellation of their 15-day detention pending investigation.
The movement staged protests on Saturday all over the country on its anniversary, demanding the overthrow of the regime.
It has said that President Mohamed Morsy failed to achieve the revolution's demands, citing the current fuel crisis and deteriorating security as examples of how people’s living conditions have deteriorated.
