The world s top players, including Egypt s star winger Mohamed Salah, will see a decline of 13% in their market value due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to KPMG. After extending his stay with the Egyptian Premier League outfit Zamalek, French coach Patrice Carteron has expressed his pleasure with the new deal. "I am happy and proud of continuing with Zamalek as well as being a technical manager of the Whites players," Carteron told the club s television channel. Zamalek announced on Saturday that Carteron would remain in his post with the team for another season. The 49-year-old Carteron, who took charge of the Whites last December, helped Zamalek snatch the African Super Cup and Egyptian Super Cup titles and reach the African Champions League semi-finals. "Zamalek players are part of a big team with great supporters, those fans enjoyed great moments when we won two titles and we want to continue with the same strength," the Zamalek coach said. Egypt s Minister of Sports and Youth Ashraf Sobhi said on Thursday that sports activities will likely resume in August. "Sports teams will start training in July," Sobhi told a television programme. "All sports halls will be sterilised by the end of June to be ready for hosting the trainings," he added. The cabinet announced on Thursday that sports clubs and youth centres will be allowed to accept members subscriptions from 15 to 30 June, provided they raise the efficiency of the facilities, and perform sterilisation procedures during that period. The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) suspended all football activities on 15 March as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, but has not yet made an official decision regarding the future of the season.

Egyptian club Ittihad of Alexandria announced on Tuesday night it has reached agreement to renew the contract of coach Talaat Youssef for one year. “The board, headed by club president Mohamed Mosselhi, reached an agreement with coach Youssef to maintain his post in the coming season 2020/2021,” read a statement on the club s official website. The 65-year-old former Ittihad player Youssef, who started his managerial career in 1999, previously took charge of the Alexandria-based club on various occasions. He guided the team to deliver good performances in both the domestic league and the Arab Cup this season before the suspension of football activities in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic. “Keeping Youssef as a coach will be a strong addition to the team in the next season. We are confident in our coach,” Mosselhi said after the renewal. Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson has extended his loan agreement with Bournemouth to stay at the Vitality Stadium until the end of the season, the Premier League clubs said on Monday. Bayern Munich s Germany defender Jerome Boateng has called on more famous white sportspeople to add their voices to the chorus of outrage at the US police killing of George Floyd. Floyd, a black American man, died after a white policeman kneeled on his neck for several minutes. His death has sparked eight days of protests in US cities, some of which have turned violent amid accusations of further police brutality used against demonstrators. It has also seen athletes, sports teams and leagues expressing solidarity with protesters demanding an end to systemic racism and police brutality in the United States. "Our voices carry, we have a platform and we touch many people," Boateng, whose father is from Ghana, told Deutsche Welle radio on Thursday. "All white sportspeople who don t speak out are obviously not racists, but of course it is desirable that they also use their notoriety for this cause. Many do it, but I think we can do much more." Boateng added that a deeper message needed to be sent, beyond the world of social media. "You need to take things in hand, whether in the form of work with children, or in integration projects," he said. "That always depends on the parents and what they re teaching their children. "Also in schools, you need the issue of racism to be integrated in curriculum. It s only by doing that that we will progress."

The technical director of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Mahmoud Saad has tested negative for the coronavirus, the association announced on Wednesday. “Welcome back Dr. Mahmoud Saad. We hope a speedy recovery for all coronavirus patients,” reads a short statement on the EFA’s official facebook page. On Thursday, the EFA announced that the former Zamalek star Saad contracted the virus after coming into direct contact with a number of positive cases that arrived in Egypt. Earlier on May, Egyptian goalkeeping coach Mohamed Abdo, who was working at third-division club Badr, died after contracting the coronavirus. Football activities in Egypt have been suspended since mid-March over the worldwide coronavirus outbreak. Egyptian football clubs had already halted training, asking players to stay fit at home until further notice. According to the latest health ministry statement issued on Tuesday, Egypt registered 1152 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total to o 27,536 cases and the death toll to 1,052 nationwide.

The Egyptian Football Association chairman Amr El-Ganainy has said that there are no intentions to announce Ahly champion of the current premier league season. “There are still 17 rounds that haven’t been played, and there are teams who have played less matches, so the situation is very hard, and the idea of crowning a particular team is excluded,” El-Ganainy told ON Sport radio station. “Everyone speaks out of their own interests only, while we seek what is best for Egyptian football,” he added. The government has launched a three-phase plan to see suspended facilities re-open under new safety measures, such as mandatory mask-wearing, with officials saying it is necessary for the country to “coexist” with the virus. According to the latest health ministry statement, Egypt registered 1,399 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the total to 26,384 cases, with a death toll of 1,005 nationwide.

Ahly s Nigerian forward Junior Ajayi announced Monday that he hopes to face rivals Zamalek in the CAF Champions League final as the two sides had met before and know each other well. All African sports activities have been suspended over the coronavirus crisis, including the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, which were originally scheduled to be played on 1 May. The Premier League s planned restart on June 17 received a further boost on Saturday when the latest batch of novel coronavirus tests produced no positive results. The tests were carried out on Thursday and Friday. "The Premier League can today confirm that on Thursday 28 May and Friday 29 May, 1,130 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, zero have tested positive," the league said in a statement https://www.premierleague.com/news/1670563. In the three previous rounds of testing since players resumed training there were 12 positives. No Premier League matches have been played since March but the league said on Thursday that the season will restart on June 17 provided all safety requirements have been met. Earlier on Saturday the government gave the green light for the resumption of elite sport in England from Monday, provided that strict safety guidelines outlined in its Stage Three protocol were adhered to. The Premier League s Chief Executive Richard Masters said he welcomed the government s announcement but said there was still work to be done to "ensure the safety of everyone involved". "All major sports, including the Premier League, have been working together with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport to produce this Stage Three protocol," he said. "We could not have reached this point without the full support of the Government, especially DCMS, Public Health England and the Chief Medical Officer s team. "If all goes well, we will be thrilled to resume the 2019/20 season in just over two weeks time." There are 92 fixtures remaining, all of which will be played without fans, although the Premier League said every game will be broadcast live in the UK by its existing broadcast partners: Sky Sports, BT Sport, BBC Sport and Amazon Prime. Premier League clubs voted unanimously on Wednesday to resume contact training as "Project Restart" took a huge step forwards. "Premier League shareholders today voted unanimously to resume contact training, marking another step towards restarting the Premier League season, when safe to do so," the league said in a statement. "Squads are now able to train as a group and engage in tackling while minimising any unnecessary close contact." It added: "Discussions are ongoing as work continues towards resuming the season, when conditions allow." The Premier League was put on hold in March due to the coronavirus. If the current domestic league season is cancelled, no team will win the league and there will be no relegations, Egyptian Football Association Vice President Gamal Mohamed said on Tuesday. “The number of the remaining matches is very large, and the point difference between the top teams is not settled yet, as well as in the relegation zone,” Mohamed was quoted as saying by Al-Ahram newspaper. "You have to accept the current situation and can t look for an excuse." Bayern have restarted were they left off in March, following up a 2-0 win at Union Berlin with a 5-2 hammering of Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. But Flick thinks Tuesday s clash will be a completely different test compared to their victory over Dortmund at the Allianz Arena last year. "The conditions are very different compared to the first game," he said. "We ve also had a good run and every player is a little bit more motivated." Two people from two Premier League clubs have tested positive for the coronavirus after a second batch of testing, the Premier League said on Saturday. Since the players returned to limited group training on Tuesday, eight positive tests for the virus have been confirmed from England’s top-flight clubs. “The Premier League can today confirm that on Tuesday 19 May, Thursday 21 May and Friday 22 May, 996 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, two have tested positive from two clubs,” the statement said. “The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. “Players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days.” The Premier League said it would not be providing details of the identities of the two new positive tests. A total of 748 tests of players and club staff made up the initial round of testing on May 17-18. Watford’s Adrian Mariappa and two members of the club’s non-playing staff and Burnley assistant manager Ian Woan were among six positive tests. They are all still in their seven-day isolation period. Two other Watford players are also self-isolating after coming into close contact with people who tested positive, according to manager Nigel Pearson. No matches have been played in the Premier League since March, but the government has given the green light for elite sport to resume from June 1, including the top-flight football. The Premier League’s “Project Restart” hopes to resume action in June, although no date has been fixed. Another round of tests are scheduled to take place on Monday and Tuesday. The Chinese Super League (CSL) will be stripped of exuberant goal celebrations — and fans — as it attempts to start during the coronavirus pandemic, reports said on Wednesday. The CSL has ambitions of launching the season in late June or early July, and Chinese football authorities have drawn up detailed plans to keep players and fans safe. The Chinese Football Association (CFA) has taken a keen interest in South Korea s K-League and Germany s Bundesliga, which led the way in restarting despite lingering virus fears. CSL matches will be held initially behind closed doors, in step with the K-League and Bundesliga, before fans are gradually allowed in, state media said. Supporters will then have to sit at least one metre (three feet) apart, the Beijing Youth Daily said, while substitutes will also be spaced out on the sidelines and must wear masks. “In addition, for the game itself, the league will also cancel (child) mascots, team handshakes, group photos and other activities,” the report said. “Photojournalists area will be limited to behind the goal line and the sideline. “After a goal is scored players are not allowed to gather and hug, all celebrations will be replaced by applause.” The anti-virus plans need government approval for the season to kick off. The CSL, which was supposed to start on February 22, became one of the first sporting casualties of the coronavirus outbreak when it was indefinitely postponed in January. However, Chinese football is edging towards starting the season after authorities declared that they have mostly curbed local infections.

Players in the Bundesliga will be reminded to respect social distancing rules after Hertha Berlin celebrated in the usual fashion in Saturday’s 3-0 win at Hoffenheim, the German league’s International Chief Executive Robert Klein has said. Teams were ordered to avoid group celebrations as part of the health and safety regulations for the restart of the league over the weekend following the COVID-19 disruption. Hertha’s Bosnian forward Vedad Ibisevic, who scored one of their goals, said after the win that players were not robots but Klein maintained the rules had to be followed. “In the hygiene concept the guideline is to celebrate within social distancing rules,” Klein told reporters. “One can imagine at the height of a goal being scored that maybe, sometimes, the players get closer. “The clubs are working actively with players. They speak to them every day to remind them of what needs to be done to ensure we earn the right to a second matchday and a third and to finish the season.” Earlier this month, Hertha suspended Ivorian forward Salomon Kalou after he posted a video on social media showing himself and team mates shaking hands and displaying a casual approach to COVID-19 guidelines.
