A Cairo prosecutor ordered on Monday the detention of six people for 15 days pending investigations into charges of inciting illegal protests on 11 November, Ahram Arabic website reported.
Eight others were ordered detained on Sunday for 15 days pending investigation into similar charges, with authorities describing the suspects as members of a “cell.”
The suspects are facing charges of inciting violence to topple the regime, change the constitution of the country and its republican system, as well as incitement to attack police stations and joining the banned Muslim Brotherhood group.
The Muslim Brotherhood was designated a terrorist organisation in Egypt in 2013.
There have been calls made online in recent weeks for protests on 11 November over the country’s economic situation, though no particular group has been revealed to be behind them.
