Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Tarek al Qouny met with U.S. Special Envoy for Libya Jonathan Winer in Cairo Thursday for talks on the latest developments in the oil-rich Arab state, Youm7 reported, citing a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

The U.S. diplomat expressed the interest to meet regularly with Egyptian officials to coordinate efforts on Libya. Winer is also scheduled to meet other Egyptian officials and Libyan figures, the statement read.
For his part, Al-Qony said Egypt looks forward to achieving security and stability in Libya, considering the historical ties between both neighbors.
Libya, currently run by two parliaments and two governments in its east and west, has been suffering from conflicts since the downfall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi five years ago.
