Minister of Supply Mohamed Ali Moselhy announced Friday an increase in the value of the ration cards per capita to be 21 EGP instead of 18 EGP.
The minister’s remarks came at a cabinet press conference to discuss the decision of the floating of the Egyptian pound that entered into force Thursday. The minister added that the increase is estimated at 5 billion EGP.
He added that the ration cards will be filtered of non-eligible citizens starting next month.
Low-income and impoverished citizens benefit from ration cards; the cards system include points per which people purchase subsidized items like rice, oil, sugar from local markets.
