A complaint was filed by Dr. Samir Sabry, a cassation lawyer, against the Islamic Al-Nas Channel for controversial remarks about Copts made by radical preacher, Wagdy Ghoneim, in a telephone interview on the channel.
The complaint, of which Sabry sent a copy to the Daily News Egypt, said that Ghoneim was speaking on Islamist talk show host, Khaled Abdallah’s show, Masr El Gedida. The guest said that “Sabry Nakhnoukh is a living example of Copts….who grow lions in their homes and exercise thuggery.” Sabry Nakhnoukh is a gang leader who was arrested last month. After his arrest, police found weapons, drugs, money and animals, including dogs and lions, in his villa.
According to the complaint, Ghoneim also said that Christians wait for Muslims to make a mistake before they use the mistake to deform the entire Islamic religion and that he “has the right to do the same.”
This complaint, which is dated 5 September, was presented to the public prosecutor against the legal representative of the Al-Nas Channel. Al-Nas Channel is a religious channel whose motto is “a channel that will take you to heaven.” No one from the channel was available to comment on the compliant.
Both Wagdy Ghoneim, the guest of the show, and Khaled Abdallah, the host, are very controversial figures with both a large fan base and much opposition as well. Ghoneim was banned from entering several Western countries including the US and the UK for “stirring up hatred”, Canada and Switzerland have also refused to allow him to enter. In addition, there is speculation that he raised funds for the Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, in Gaza.
The complaint filed by Sabry also said that “the channel and the presenter have taken the path of inciting strife between Muslims and Christians which is proved by the fact that the channel allowed some who claim to be preachers of Islam to attack Christians using the vilest of language.”
